Food and nutrition

Nursery children have the option of having a school meal provided by the on site kitchen.  We have a two week menu that changes half termly depending on the season.   Your child can have this at the cost of £2.80 a day. They can decide what they have on the morning, so there is no need to pre book.

Dietary requirements – Our menus include a daily vegetarian and pescatarian option, and we also cater for common allergens and intolerances.

The school has a 5* rated Food Standards Agency rating.

Nursery

We have a two-year-old room and a 3/4year old room.

Our rooms have everything your children needs to feel nurtured, while they have fun making exciting new discoveries to support their learning and development

Children stay in the 2-year-old room until the September meaning they have a full year in the 3-year-old room before transitioning to Reception.

Uniform

We ask that all children attending Caterpillars wear our T-Shirt and Jumper. This Caterpillars Uniform is available to purchase from the Mapac website. Please click for the link.

Reception

There are two classes for Reception and a large outside space. All EYFS staff will be involved in teaching your child.

We recognise that each child has unique interests, learning preferences and developmental needs, therefore we adapt our practice and delivery to accommodate these differences.

We teach early reading through the Sounds Write programme.  Daily phonics teaching in class with catch sessions where required.  Reading books and initial code will come home for you to share. They need to be secure in this stage before progressing through.   We encourage a real love of books and of reading across the school.

A workshop will be held for parents to attend in the Autumn term.   Some more information available on the Sounds-Write website.

Uniform  and PE Kit

This is all available to purchase through the Mapac website. It is not mandatory to have logo uniform. A plain white poloshirt, and plain royal blue jumper or cardigan, is widely available as uniform.

The Early Years Curriculum

Nursery and Reception have a defined set of core texts which sets the theme for each half term. The reading spine is intended to offer our children a core bank of texts that ensures they experience a range of high-quality texts and authors during their time in EY. This exposes children to high quality stories and language that they can use within their independent learning. We also ensure that there is significant and well-planned focused teaching time in order for children to be introduced to new concepts within their learning.

There are 3 Prime Areas of learning

– Communication and Language- listening, attention and understanding

– Personal, Social and Emotional Development- self regulation, managing self and building relationships.

– Physical Development- Gross and fine motor skills

4 Specific Areas of Learning

– Literacy

– Mathematics

– Understanding the World

– Expressive Arts and Design

Our curriculum ensure children can achieve in all areas of the curriculum.
