Willows
At Wells Hall, our SLD Unit Willows, caters for children who are diagnosed with Severe Learning Disabilities. We are adopting a ‘Complete Communication’ environment offering many sensory learning opportunities both inside
and outside, delivering learning that is regularly adapted to meet the needs of all pupils. Teaching and learning is
planned for using: the engagement model, the EYFS framework and CUSP communication modules. We support further assessments to help inform future placements.
Our bespoke curriculum model creates a multi-sensory learning environment that incorporates learning through a
balance of adult directed/supported and child-initiated play. Daily learning opportunities extend to the Willows own outdoor area. The Willows has toilet and changing facilities, a sensory play and exploration room and two learning spaces.
The Unit is overseen by the school SENDCo and led by an experience teacher who is supported by 1 Higher Level
teaching assistant and 2 teaching assistants.
